Dimbuch
Dimbuch is a Ready to use supplementary Food (RUSF) for the rehabilitation of children with Moderate Acute Malnutrition. Dimbuch is designed for children from 6 months of age and above who fall under the cut-off for moderate acute malnutrition who need to receive an adapted diet that allows them to regain a normal nutritional status.
Dimbuch was developed together with World Food Programme (WFP) & was developed using locally available ingredients such as Chickpeas and Maize. Chickpeas are a staple in the Ethiopian diet and Ethiopia is the largest producer of chickpeas in Africa and is ranked number six globally.
The invention of RUSF made home treatment/ambulatory or outpatient care possible for moderate malnourished children with an appetite and without medical complications. Even though Dimbuch can be used at home under the supervision of the mother or another member of the family, the vulnerable condition of severely malnourished children requires a health practitioner’s prescription and regular medical check-ups.
